Freedom is a constant struggle:

sometimes in ascendance,
sometimes under siege.

Hopefully we take more steps forward than we are pushed back.

In the bad times, we must recognize the need to continue the struggle in the face of overwhelming obstacles and we must have the inner strength to do it.

In the good times, we must recognize that sooner or later bigotry or greed or intolerance will raise its head.

We must stay alert to the dangers of repression and intolerance and we must not allow an apparent lack of danger to lull us into complacency.
